Answers to Question 1-3

1. What should adults do to follow the drinking age?

People who provide alcohol must confirm the age by making the customers present their official IDs to the clerk. However people under the age of drinking should know what it takes to drink alcohol and the health effects of it from a young age. The schools should give education on drinking age and alcohol.
2. Do you know any news concerning drinking age?

I have heard of university students drinking under age having a party and they got drunk, and since they were partying by the river, they jumped into the lake and drowned to death.

3. What makes people under 20 drink alcohol in Japan?

People around them give an influence on the young people. When they see adults and freidns drinking daily, they would think it is a normal thing. If young people see adults having fun with alcohol, they would have interest in what makes it so enjoyable.
The media also gives them a big impact. When they see famous or beautiful people drink alcohol, they would have a longing for alcohol, thinking that alcohol would make them cool as well. Young people might start drinking for escape of their real lives, because drinking alcohol would result in self confidence. There is no one reason to start drinking or crave it.

  1. I personally think drinking age should be lowered to 19. Most of college students start school when they are 19 in Japan I think. In college, there are lot of opportunities to drink alcohol with friends and college clubs. Students under 20 are not allowed to drink yet though as there are too much events including drinking alcohols. It is hard to restrict yourself and not drink.
However, I think parents play big role for drinking alcohols. If their children is in house, I think parents should not be too strict about drinking alcohol because if they are strict, children's desire to drink alcohol grow higher. Also as alcohol could be sometimes dangerous, parents should teach children how to drink alcohol.

  2. Yumi's opinion seems reasonable and probably much more realistic than the current reality.

Remember that you need to refer to, at least, two sources to answer each of your research questions, summarize those sources, cite the source, and then offer your commentary. It's clear that in some of your questions (for example, questions 8 and 9) you did not come up with the answers just using your background knowledge, but you did not cite any sources. I provided plenty of examples showing how you can do this in my own blog at: http://vegetarianjodias.blogspot.jp/ .

  3. In my opinion, the drrinking age should not lowered under 20 because it might be decided after serious discussion considering about health of young people's bodies. I can understand alcohol is our enjoyments and a good tool to communicate with and make new friendes in colleges, but I think what is wrong is that young people who are 19 or lower can drink alcohol easily. If restrictions at shops or the law become stricter, people who are not become 20 yet would naturally stop drinking. At universities, the seniors of circles or clubs must stop to have younger members drink.

  4. In my opinion drinking age should not be lower, because drinking under 20 seems to give bad effect for our health. I know that alcohol makes us fun, but there are many other things that we can enjoy. People should enjoy playing that is suitable for their age. When I was high school student, I hung out or play foot ball on holiday, I could enjoy. So alcohol under 20 age is not needed.
